Leaving Nagoya Soon? Large-Garbage Deadline Before Move-Out

Nagoya rules checked September 25, 2026Rule change starts October 2026

Nagoya is a bad city for stale garbage advice right now. The definition of large-sized garbage changes from October 2026, so an older English article can give you the wrong size rule even if the rest of the process is correct.

The rule changes in October 2026

Through September 2026Over 30 cm on any dimension

The current English guide uses the 30 cm rule.

From October 2026Does not fit in a 45L designated bag

Nagoya’s September 17 update announces the new definition.

If your move-out happens around the end of September or beginning of October, use the official Nagoya page for the exact collection date rather than relying on an old blog post.

Large-sized garbage is collected once a month

Nagoya’s English guide says large-sized garbage is collected once a month and residents should apply at least seven days before the collection date. That makes last-week move-outs risky: seven days before your flight is not necessarily seven days before the city’s monthly collection day.

After booking: pay the fee and put the item out by 8 a.m.

The city instructs residents to buy the large-sized-garbage payment certificate, write the reception number or name on it, attach it to the item, and put the item out by 8:00 a.m. on collection day. Collection time cannot be specified.

Four appliances are not collected by Nagoya as ordinary city garbage

Nagoya’s English separation guide says TVs, refrigerators/freezers, air conditioners, washing machines and dryers are not collected by the city in the ordinary garbage system.

If the monthly collection date is too late

Do not leave the item at the building garbage point. Compare the municipality’s self-delivery route where practical, reuse options for usable items, and legally authorized paid collection. For a paid quote, send the exact handover date and photos before asking “how much?”
