The fastest quote is not the message “How much to remove my furniture?” Send a complete item list, photos, dimensions, access details and the exact deadline. You are more likely to get a usable total price—and less likely to discover surprise conditions on collection day.

Copy this quote request

Hello. I am moving out of Japan and need collection before 2026/11/03.

Address/area: [city/ward]
Floor: [ ] / Elevator: yes-no
Items: [bed frame, desk, chair, refrigerator, washing machine…]
Large-item sizes: [W × D × H]
Parking/loading access: [brief note]
I attached photos of every item and appliance label.

Please tell me the total estimated price, earliest collection time, what the price includes, and how household waste is legally collected/processed in this municipality.

Attach photos that answer the collector’s questions before they ask

  • one wide photo showing each item
  • close-up of appliance manufacturer/model labels
  • stairs, elevator and narrow doorway if relevant
  • the path from the room to the building exit
  • parking/loading restrictions if obvious

If the collector has to guess whether a wardrobe fits in an elevator, the first quote is less useful.

Ask for these five things in writing

  1. Total estimated price for the listed items.
  2. What is included: carrying, stairs, dismantling, recycling and transport.
  3. Earliest confirmed collection window.
  4. What can change the price on the day.
  5. The legal household-waste collection route for your municipality.

Why the license question matters

The Ministry of the Environment warns that household waste should not be handed to an unlicensed collector. A company saying “licensed” is not enough by itself: the ministry explicitly notes that an industrial-waste permit or secondhand-dealer permit alone is not authorization to collect household waste.

That does not mean every private service is a problem. It means the operator should be able to explain the authorized collection/processing route clearly.

If the quote includes a refrigerator or washing machine

Flag it separately. Refrigerators/freezers, washing machines/dryers, TVs and air conditioners are covered by the Home Appliance Recycling Law. Ask how the recycling fee and transport are handled rather than treating them as ordinary furniture.

When the cheapest quote is not the best quote

If one provider gives a written all-in price and explains the legal route while another gives only “from ¥5,000” with no details, you do not actually have two comparable quotes. With a flight and apartment handover approaching, certainty has value.

Fast English pickup: what matters most

Make the request easy to quote: photos + item list + measurements + access + exact deadline.

Make the price easy to compare: ask for an all-in written estimate and price-change conditions.

Make the disposal route safe: verify authorization for household waste in your municipality.

Separate regulated appliances: fridge, washer, TV and air conditioner need the recycling-law route.
