Leaving Sapporo? Bulky Waste Deadlines Before Move-Out (English Guide)
City-specific move-out disposal guide for foreign residents in Japan.

In Sapporo, your ward determines the bulky-waste collection weekday and application deadline. That makes your exact address and room-handover date more important than a generic “how many days does sodai gomi take?” answer.

Sapporo move-out deadline table

Ward Collection day Application deadline
Kiyota Monday Thursday of the previous week
Kita / Higashi / Nishi / Teine Wednesday Monday of that week
Chuo / Toyohira Thursday Tuesday of that week
Shiroishi / Atsubetsu / Minami Friday Wednesday of that week

Sapporo says applications and changes must be made by 4:30 p.m. on the applicable deadline. The city accepts bulky-waste applications starting two weeks before the desired collection date.

What counts as bulky waste in Sapporo?

Sapporo defines bulky waste as durable household items and other solid waste that do not fit in the designated garbage bag. Common examples include desks, chairs, cabinets, beds, futons, microwave ovens, bicycles and some household appliances.

Not ordinary bulky waste: televisions, refrigerators/freezers, washing machines, air conditioners and computers are excluded from Sapporo’s bulky-waste collection.

What to do after booking

The city offers online and phone application routes. When electronic payment is used, Sapporo says to write the four-digit reception number on paper and attach it visibly to each item. Put the item at the agreed collection point by 8:30 a.m. on collection day. Normally you do not need to be present.

A useful Sapporo-only option: request reuse collection for usable furniture

Sapporo asks residents to request “reuse collection” for eligible usable wooden furniture, bicycles and certain children’s items. The city cleans or services suitable collected items and makes them available for reuse. If your table, chair or cabinet is still usable, this is worth mentioning when you apply.

If your flight is before the next Sapporo collection day

First confirm that you did not simply miss a different ward deadline. If the official schedule genuinely cannot meet the apartment handover date, move to a legal paid option rather than leaving furniture at the garbage station.
